Club History

2005-2006 Division 19 Lt Governor Harris Segel was the initial driving force to start a new club in the Metro Parkway area of Fort Myers. The Fort Myers and Fort Myers-Edison clubs agreed to co-sponsor the club and members from both clubs helped in recruiting new members as did volunteers from some other clubs. Putting in extraordinary efforts were Fort Myers' Secretary Barbara Segel and Fort Myers-Edison's President Kathy Woolston and winter member John Cushing. Kiwanis International representative Rhonda Vrell came down in January to help with the recruiting effort. Kiwanis International Trustee Don Canaday came down in the beginning of May and did an incredible job of teaching and recruiting. In addition Governor Donna and First Husband Dave and District TAG Team members came to Fort Myers to help with the recruiting.

Informational and organizational meetings were held beginning at the end of May. Even before officers were elected, the club started its first service project, a blood drive to help with our area's critical blood shortage. On June 20th, a slate of officers was elected. And on June 27th, the official Charter Application was completed and sent into Kiwanis International.
