Community Service Projects
Bringing Up Grades is the major community service focus of our
club. BUG is a program designed to provide recognition to
students who raise their grades to an acceptable range, and
maintain or continue to raise them from one grading period to
the next. Recognition includes being placed on the school's
BUG Honor Roll; a pizza, ice cream, or other food-themed
party; and presentation of certificates, pins, and other
giveaways. We currently have BUG programs in operation at
Orangewood and Colonial Elementary schools and are actively
seeking more schools.
"I want to take this opportunity
to thank you for the outstanding presentation yesterday at
Colonial. It was one of the most meaningful assemblies that we
have hosted. Your club's interest and dedication to education
is commendable. We appreciate the time and effort that you
take to recognize improvement." Sincerely, Sandra Strausser
Principal, Colonial
Elementary

Hats & Hugs is a statewide project of Florida Kiwanis in memory and honor of Nancy Liddel.
Hats for kids fighting cancer - Hugs for kids in distressed situations.
* Donate children's-size hats and other head coverings and our club will make sure to get these donations to anywhere that children with cancer can be reached, such as a local children's oncology ward, cancer support organizations, to the family down the street or to a child we meet in the community.
* Collect and donate new or very gently used plush animals. BUT WAIT! Before you turn the stuffed animals over, please Hug them to pass on the love to a child. These donations will be given to various emergency personnel such as police officers, firefighters, domestic violence shelters, etc. in our local area.

Every Child A Swimmer is a program being reinstituted in our area in conjunction with Swim Florida to make sure that all children acquire the basic skills of swimming and water safety that will enable them to avoid drowning. Once started, this program will provide free weekly instruction to children in Kindergarden through 5th grades with certificates being awarded to every child who completes the course.
